Most printers in the 1970s and 1980s utilized paper with holes punched along the sides. The paper fed into a sprocket assembly, and moving sprockets engaged the holes to move the paper in a controlled way. The paper itself was a long, continuous piece. Perforations on the sides allowed the punched strips on the sides to be removed easily. Perforations between pages allowed output to be separated easily into individual pages.
Pages for this paper measures 9.5" by 11", including the 0.5" strips with punched holes on each side. Removing the punched strips yields a standard 8.5" by 11" page. This paper was manufactured by Willamette Industries, Inc. for the LA50 printer.
