Discrete Logic/Memory Cards from the Nebula Machine

Notes from Steven Cunningham: The cards are hand-assembled and are from the Oregon State Nebula machine.

The Nebula was built in 1965 by the Oregon State faculty and students; it was a one-of-a-kind machine. It had 34-bit words built on a glass delay line memory loop, with a total 4096-word memory. The original cost was $30,400 in parts and $16,600 in labor. It was decommissioned in the late 1970s and was being scrapped in 1980-81 when I was on sabbatical there. I latched onto as many of the parts as I could, but there were a number of people getting the best stuff and I was only a visitor (actually a graduate student again getting my MS in CS with an NSF SFPD grant).
