A U-Matic recorder and player made by Sony that can be used with SP or non-SP videocassettes. A U-Matic is an analog recording videocassette format that was one of the first video formats to contain the videotape inside of a cassette. The VO-9600 automatically recognizes an SP videocassette which offers a higher quality video and audio performance.
U-Matic devices were not on the consumer market because of their high cost but they were produced for industrial use for places like Hollywood.
