Biographical information:

In 1971, the mathematics faculty offered the first computer-based course at the college   a one-credit course in FORTRAN programming with calculus II as a prerequisite. The Department of Mathematics continued to develop and offer courses in programming and computing through the coming years.

By 1991, computing had evolved to the point that the Department of Mathematics was renamed the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. A separate Computer Science major emerged within this department.

By 2007, the fields of computer science and mathematics had diverged sufficiently that the single department was restructured into a Department of Computer Science and a Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
