NeXTSTEP 256 Megabyte Optical Disk

This disk was produced by NeXTSTEP Computing using magneto-optics to create a removable read/write/erasable standard mass storage device. These were mostly produced in the late 80s, although a few were in use in the 90s, and were considered an innovation in their time. They were inspired by the concept of a "digital library", in which online works were easily cataloged, searched for, and indexed.
