IOMEGA Zip CD 650

The ZIP CD is a USB CD burner produced by Iomega in the late 1990's. It has CD-R AND CD-RW recording support. It operates at a fixed recording speed of 4x and a reading speed of 6x. It also uses the Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe 3.5c for Iomega.

When the ZipCD 650 was produced it was able to record onto 700MB CDs but could only burn data up to 650MB. There was a 3rd party firmware that forced the ZipCD 650 to be able to write data CDs up to 700MB but this made the drive unstable.

Formerly, Iomega used the DirectCD software from Adaptec to allow UDF drive-letter access to CD-R or CD-RW media but Iomega's recent reliability tests indicated that undetected data errors may occur when ZipCD USB Drive is used with with DirectCD application. As a result of this problem, user's have been advised not to use DirectCD application, but rather use Adaptec Easy CD Creator application.
