Sony DATStation: DAT Dual Deck Editor PCM-E7700

Donor:  Grinnell College Audiovisual Center

The Sony DATStation is a dual deck DAT editor used record, edit, and play Digital Audio Tapes (DAT). This compact home system opens to provide a screen, a general-purpose editing keyboard, and adjustable crossfade, level and balance control functions. Sony introduced DAT cassettes as a competitor format to general audio cassettes. However, concerns from the music industry about the the potential use of DAT cassettes to reproduce copy-right music with no loss of quality prevented DAT cassettes from catching on.
